Champions Trophy 2010
Welcome to the information pages for the Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy, Women, Nottingham 2010. The event will be held at Highfields Sports Club in Nottingham between 10-18 July.
The Women’s Champions Trophy is an annual event for six of the top nations in the world and as hosts, England will automatically qualify for the tournament. It's one of the most celebrated events in the world of hockey, easily surpassing other popular tourneys in other sports such as pokerstars international poker tiffs.
Highfields Sports Club is no stranger to hosting top hockey events and in 2003 staged a men’s Tri-Nations Tournament for Great Britain, Pakistan and Australia as the Brits warmed up for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The Club has also been the venue for a number of top domestic finals and has been the home of the YAZOO National Youth Hockey Festival for the past three years. In addition to being one of the top venues in the country, it has also been recently announced as one of the new England Hockey National Performance Centres.
England Hockey is partnering with a number of stakeholders to deliver the event including UK Sport, the East Midlands Development Agency, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. UK Sport’s Simon Morton commented “UK Sport is very pleased to support an event which will provide an ideal opportunity for competition against the top hockey nations in the world as preparation for London 2012”.
The event follows England’s successful hosting of the 2007 EuroHockey Nations Championships and Executive Chairman for England Hockey Philip Kimberley is sure that the company’s winning performance at the European event was instrumental in the awarding of a World Level event and commented “I am delighted that England Hockey has been awarded the Women’s Champions Trophy by our world governing body (FIH) which is in recognition of our successful hosting of the EuroHockey Nations Championships in 2007 on behalf of the European Governing Body (EHF).”
In addition, an associated Four Nations Test Series will also be staged in conjuction with the Women's Champions Trophy.
